We also use a solar water heater to get our pool temp up but even with the cover on during sunny days, the pool is warmed 4-5 degrees more than if the cover is off and on cold nights the warm temp is retained. It is made of a very thick material, although not a safety blanket it would buy some time if a kid/dog fell in the water. The cover doesn't just swallow you up...very rigid...happy with the purchase.
