Bought a new tractor and snowblower attachment with 20x8-8 tires, so needed to get some chains so could plow the long driveway that I have. Amazon shipped these fast, no problems so far. The 1st problem arose when I attempted to put the chains on, they were too short. Off to the hardware store to buy a few links and quick-connects to lengthen the outside chains to make the fit, that worked, so was thinking problem was over. Next, I used the chains the 1st time it snowed, only to have to stop as one of the factory quick-connects that is shaped like a "c" had changed its shape to a "j" allowing the chain to come apart. Back to the hardware store for more real quick-connects (ones that are shaped like "O" with a space that is closed by screwing it shut, not like the ones that they furnish.)

These chains apparently so cheaply fabricated that they are virtually useless and "snow chains" in name only. I would return them to Amazon except that shipping them would cost almost as much as the amount I paid for them, so that is not exactly a grand idea. Thankfully, these are cheap, so am not out that much, however, I have ordered some from a different source and hopefully they will work out much better.

Do yourself a favor and buy some somewhere else, the good reviews on the other models do not apply to these or were made before the company decided to save money at the cost of quality, who knows?

I work at a medium size church. Way too large for a dinky lawn spreader and too small for a truck mounted unit. We have different sized walkways as well as a parking lot that we have to salt (as quickly as possible) I couple years back I bought a salt dawg ice melt spreader and by the second year I was already repairing it. Three years later there was nothing to repair... So I sprang for the Myers Hot Shot Pro. With the lack of snow it has only gotten a few uses so here is what I know.
It came partially assembled and the rest went together pretty easily. The two piece handle needs to be adjusted right for the shut off assembly to work properly and lock in the closed position when you push it all the way forward. It's sturdy, well designed and has some features that are pure genius. Zerk fittings on the axels so you can keep the axle bearings greased all the time. Big hopper with a wide shutoff gate that allows for any product you want to be used. The rate control works really well even though I thought it was going to be junk at first. I was totally wrong. Genius in its simplicity! Same goes for the deflector plate assembly! When I was putting it together I thought it was going to work like crap and not meet my needs. Again... I was wrong It's a great one piece design that you either put on for a 2.5' spread or pull off (with the twist of 2 wing nuts) to get a full throw to either side of the spreader. Again, the simplicity of the design makes me believe it will last far longer. My old spreader called for banging and clanging to adjust the flaps after a year or two of use. The enclosed gearbox should do wonders to keep the gears from eating themselves like the salt dawg did. I'll try to update this as it gets more use.

I have these for all of my snow machines and have them strapped to the back lift bar with the buckle set up you can get. They work great in a pinch and store out of the way, which is twice as nice. One note: you'll need a limiter strap on your snow flap (so it doesn't get sucked under when in reverse) for this shovel to stay centered on the back bar. Otherwise it can slide over to the side. Not a real big deal, but annoyed me.

Toro-Power Clear 210 (21") Single Stage Snow Blower Review

My main requirement was something that was light enough that I could store it in the basement via bulkhead. That's worked well for this device. The thrower also cleans right down to the pavement due to it's rubber flappers, something the metal augers cannot do. The housing has a special, small seperate peice that can be removed to access the carb (the part most likely to need maintenance). I'm on my 2nd winter now, and the unit has required no maintenance at all. We had a 20" snowfall today, and that presented some problems for a thrower of a smaller size, like this one. I had to "ride" the thrower up on the top layer of snow and then return for a second pass to clear the lower level, but it commpleted the job nonetheless.

I'm updating the review today; prior paragraph didn't convey just how much I love this thing! It works so well, even though it's only a single stage. Never clogs, always throws.

[UPDATE] 12/2011: I'm still really happy w/ this thrower, but there's a design flaw that causes the pull-cord to rattle against the opening of a plastic dashboard, and it'll adventually break. I cut & tied mine where it was frayed. And the I took the t-handle out of the holder that is meant to keep it accessible 1/2-way down the push-frame, and just let it pull itself towards the engine until the dashboard stops it. That way, the nylon rope won't be rattling against anything.

Sno-Knife Roof Snow Removal Tool Rake Review

I purchased a Sno-Knife half-way through winter and was pleased with it. However, I found it difficult to use from the ground. The pitch of my roof is 4/12 and, after attaching several extensions to get far enough from the house to get the proper angle, I found the Sno-Knife awkward to use. I then used the Sno-Knife (with one extension) from a ladder leaned against the eaves of my one-story house. This worked well for me, but some people may not be comfortable on a ladder in winter. I was very impressed how quickly the Sno-Knife slid snow off my roof (I only used it on fairly wet snow). I also was impressed with how I could remove snow at an angle to the side, so it did not slide onto me (I would guess that Sno-Knife is better at this than other roof-clearing products). Sno-Knife should be easier to use from the ground on steeper roofs, but question its use with two-story houses.
