I bought one of these Garant Nordic 21 inch snow pushers for 12 dollars at Ace Hardware and immediately fell in love with it for 3 inches or less of powder snow on cement driveway.
I soon bought another for another 12 dollars. When there is 3 inches of powder or less on my cement loading area of driveway, I generally clear it quickly with one of these in each hand.
The only pusher I would dream of using with more than 3 inches of snow is a combo shovel that is half scoop and half pusher, and work well for (very short distances) pushing up to 4 inches of powder.
For pushing serious snow one needs the two handed grip and brute force of a Wovel.
For moving snow any distance one needs the gliding ability and scoop size of a Garant 24 or 26 inch sleigh shovel.
But this Garant Nordic 21 inch pusher is 3 pounds and just right for easy nuisance snow of 3 inches or less on cement. The tip of the shovel has two more fat ridges behind it giving more surface area on the cement. It does not dig into every little lump or crack in the concrete.
The polymer shovels are wonderful until someone starts treating them as if they were six pounds of steel. Every tool can be broken. Use a square utility (or transfer) shovel for moderate ice. Then come back with a pusher or sleigh shovel to scoop up and slide away the chunks. Everyone should use the right tool for the most realistic job.
(As the carpenter says, do not try to hammer together the walls of a house with a tack hammer or a sledge hammer).
I might also say "do not use a gasoline snowblower on 3 inches of snow unless your driveway is a bit long". By the time you warm it up, clear the snow, and then brush the snow off of blower and out of working parts, you have worked too hard.
