I got the "Gorilla Floor Padding for 16ft x 32ft Rectangular Above Ground Swimming" for an Intex 16x32 ultraframe pool. I did not end up trimming the material at all. It sticks about 8" around the entire pool and I just left it that way. I was expecting the material to be more like a thick foam maybe 3/4" thick but this material is more cloth-like and only about 1/8" thick. That said, I did basic ground prep - flattened and removed grass and rocks and tried to level as best as I could. I put down the ground cover that came with the pool and then put the gorilla pad over it and then the pool on top of that. It feels really comfortable on your feet when in the pool. I haven't felt any rocks underneath but my wife says she has felt a few. We weren't that meticulous with it and I think the gorilla pad really covers up the vast majority of the imperfections in the ground. I imagine it is doing a fair amount to help insulate the pool from the cooling the ground would do as well.
