Okay, admittedly I am trying to go without chlorine at all, which is not really the intent of this device, but I am actually doing fairly well! That said, installation was a serious pain in the arse. I destroyed the PVC T that came with it trying to glue it into place since there is no easy way to cut out a section of pipe that will still slip into the T deep enough to seat properly. All of my piping runs between fixed objects (heater, filter, pump, etc.) so I had to buy another T (luckily the normal T from the hardware store works fine) and use a compression coupler so I could slide it down the pipe, then back into place once I had glued everything else (i.e. I could not make a normal slide repair coupler work in this setting, I needed the extra width of the compression coupler. Also...they say just wire into the pool timer...I am no electrical novice so this is easy...if any pool pump I have ever seen ran on 110v instead of 240!!! So I had to wire up a separate timer set to correspond with the pool timer! After all that, I have been able to get the copper levels where they are supposed to be, and it seems to have been killing most things with the exception of some yellow/orange alge that started growing the heat of summer. But I did end up using some algecide and lots of brushing to try and keep it under control. But the water is much more pleasant to swim in than anything chlorinated! We had 4 kids and one adult using it regularly.

Update: About a year in I had to start using the chlorine feeder as well, not sure if this is really reducing the amount of chlorine I am using. It seemed to work when there was fresh water in the pool, but after the first season it was not enough to keep up with the algae.
