Another reviewer called this shovel "durable but heavy". I guess that may be true if you're gonna pack this thing into the backcountry. But it's a feather compared to a typical garden spade and I'm intending to throw it in the back of my SUV as part of my winter emergency kit. I think the car will hold up just fine. What appealed to me was the ability to collapse the handle and disassemble the blade for minimal storage space in a car.

As for the intended function, moving snow? Well the blade at roughly 10" X 10" is similar to a standard garden shovel. It's not gonna move high volumes but on the other hand, you won't be able to strain yourself very easily either. A person in good shape should be able to wield this thing for an hour, no sweat. The small size should be an advantage digging around and under a car. I do worry that the handle tubing won't hold up to using the thing as a lever. So I'll just have to remember to go easy with that sort of thing. The 6061T6 blade however should hold up decently on anything short of ice.

I'm 6'0" tall and I wish the handle had a bit more length for shoveling. But that would mean a bigger package. So for the occasional extraction from a snowbank or tire chain mounting, it's OK. I almost bought the model with a "T" handle but then another review pointed out that the "D" grip is better if you are wearing gloves or especially mittens. And the "D" grip gives you another few inches of reach under a car and a bit more leverage for throwing the snow.

Overall, I think this shovel will serve my purpose perfectly.
