We have an odd shaped pool so it took me months to finally get the correct number of rings (16!). By the time I bought that many, I almost wished I had done a solar cover because it is the same cost at that level, but the hassle of removing them is slightly less given our yard size and odd pool shape. We had 2 that were defective when received (outer ring immediately deflated). I have just contacted the manufacturer so we will see how that works out, but I have been pleased with them overall. We live in Mass. and have an unheated pool and typically the temp gets up only by 7/4 to a nice, swimmable temp, and then it drops quickly in August. The rings do seem to help it hold temp, and recover lost temp on sunny days. Nothing you can do about the fact that cold rain water really drops it down, but it recovers much more quickly on hot, sunny days than it did the 3 years we swam without these. We leave them in even when swimming if we aren't using the whole pool, and got a kiddie pool of the appropriate diameter to store them in on the pool deck when we take them out. They do collect leaves, so makes for a messy pool when you first remove them to swim. Not sure we really needed the anchors but did not want them blowing all over the yard. You do have to raise the ring and turn it to empty water from the anchors over the pool--slows down removal so if you don't need anchors to keep your rings from blowing away, I'd say try to go without. Overall we are pretty happy with these in our first summer of use. Can't say it helped heat up the pool this summer, as we only had 6 for about 6 weeks while others were on back order. I found them cheaper and more reliably in stock through another website, so you might consider shopping around for these (i.e. google them). I am giving them only 3 stars because I can't say whether they will help heat the pool in the spring/early summer because we did not have them yet, I was annoyed to receive 2 that were defective, and they are kind of a hassle to move in and out of the pool. The hassle factor is to be expected from the design so not a surprise, but the more rings you need, the more time you are spending fishing them out before you swim. Most of the consumer Reviews tell that the "Solar Sun Ring Water Anchor Plain Blue" are high quality item.
